Popular tech YouTuber Marques ‘MKBHD’ Brownlee is facing the internet’s wrath over his latest video, where he carried out a life-threatening act for the sake of content-making. Titled How My Video Gear Is Changing, the video in question shows MKBHD driving a sports car at a highly unsafe speed in a school zone, sparking outrage online. In the video, MKBHD expresses his wish to change his filming format and adopt a more freestyle way of recording videos with a new action camera. But this is where things didn’t go down well with the viewers.

The video unfolds with Brownlee attempting to show the action camera’s potential. Recording himself from a POV perspective, he goes on to drive the Lamborghini through the narrow road, even nearing the children’s zone. Viewers were too quick to notice how the YouTuber went all over the speed limit. A user shared a short clip from the video and pointed out how his car went as high as 96mph.

While the video’s comment section was filled with a lot of criticism, many shared screenshots on the X platform and called out the YouTuber for his reckless approach. One wrote, “Just so everyone coming in late knows what happens, Marques went in and removed a 5-second section of this video where he recklessly goes 96mph in a 35mph zone. He’s attempting to sweep it under the rug, it would seem,” while another added, “lol, you blurring the speed after it went past 60 and still going up in a 35 zone won’t make it seem less bad. Actually it’s arguably worse… As the center console still shows it topping at 96 as you did not blur that one. Where I live that video would be enough evidence to take a license away.”

An X user took a dig at the YouTuber and noted, “crazy how mkbhd pivoted to running over kids at 96mph in 35 zone (while also trying to cover it up) after failing to sell a wallpaper subscription.”

Another added, “While taping a video ad for DJI, he filmed himself going 100+mph in a 35mph Slow Children at Play zone. His team then tried to hide it by blurring the speedometer, but they forgot to blur the second speedometer. Incredibly reckless and dumb.”

Following the intense backlash, Brownlee eventually acknowledged his mistake and removed the particular portion that showed him driving at high speeds. He took to the microblogging platform with an apology. “Last video I did something pretty stupid. You might’ve already seen it, but maybe not so I’ll address it here. There was a clip with the action cam of me test-driving a car and going way too fast. Absolutely inexcusable and dangerous,” a part of this tweet read.

Explaining that the speeding part has been removed, Brownlee concluded, “All I can do is apologise and promise never to do anything close to that stupid again. That’s a terrible example to set and I’m sorry for it.”
