YouTube rolls out AI-powered search features, expands conversational tool to more users

YouTube is bringing artificial intelligence deeper into its platform with two new features designed to enhance discovery and learning. The updates aim to help users “dive deeper, learn faster, and find what you’re looking for more easily,” the company said in a blog post on Thursday.

Smarter search with AI carousels

One of the key updates is an AI-powered search results carousel that curates video clips and topic summaries created by YouTubers. For instance, a search for “best beaches in Hawaii” may now display a carousel with AI-selected video snippets showcasing snorkeling spots and volcanic coastlines, along with helpful descriptions and related content.

The feature is currently available for YouTube Premium members in the US, specifically for searches related to shopping, travel, or local activities.

Conversational AI coming to more users

YouTube is also expanding access to its conversational AI tool, which has so far been limited to Premium users. In the coming days, the feature will roll out to select non-Premium users in the US as part of a broader test.

The tool allows users to ask follow-up questions, get video recommendations, and even quiz themselves on educational content—all within the app. YouTube says it has been popular among Premium users for exploring new topics and enhancing academic learning.
