WhatsApp channels are popular among users and QR codes will make it easier to sign up with them.

WhatsApp introduced Channels last year and since then, it has come a long way with several new functionalities, updates, and improvements. Now, the Meta-owned service is rolling out a new feature that streamlines the process of sharing channels on the platform.

The latest feature is now available in beta, and allows users to quickly share, view, join, and follow channels using a quick response (QR) code in the app.

Currently under development, the upcoming feature is aimed at making it easier for users to discover and join new channels with a simple scan. The new QR code sharing feature was spotted by feature tracker WABetaInfo on the latest versions of WhatsApp for iOS and Android.

Beta testers who have recently updated to WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.25.7 or WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.24.10.76 might be able to use this feature.

As per WABetaInfo, users who have the feature enabled on WhatsApp and manage an existing WhatsApp Channel will be able to open their Channel information panel. Just navigate to the channel, tap on the three vertical dot button from the top right, and head over to the sharing options. Here, the option to generate a QR code will be available.

“The introduction of QR codes makes sharing channels significantly more convenient than using traditional links. Instead of copying and pasting a link to share through messages or emails, users can simply show the QR code on their device screen for others to scan.”

This is especially beneficial in face-to-face settings, where other people can quickly scan the code without the need for additional steps. The scanned code will redirect users to the channel, where they can view its content and follow it with just one tap,” read the report.

Compared to the traditional methods, which involve copying and pasting a link in the chat to join a channel, the new method offers convenience when the person you want to join is in front of you. This new feature is even more useful for business owners as they will be able to print the QR code on business cards, posters, and flyers, among other things.

It still remains unclear when WhatsApp will bring the QR code sharing feature to users on the stable update channel. In addition to this, the company is currently testing other useful additions to the app, including the ability to share entire sticker packs, cross-device contact management, and a ‘Search on the web’ image lookup feature.
