Gulf of Mexico Renamed: Google previously said it has “a longstanding practice of applying name changes when they have been updated in official government sources.”

Gulf Of Mexico’s renaming comes after an executive order by US President Donald Trump renamed the area.
For US-based users of Google Maps, the body of water formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico is now listed as the Gulf of America. This comes after an executive order by US President Donald Trump renamed the area. Google previously said it has “a longstanding practice of applying name changes when they have been updated in official government sources.”
“People using Maps in the US will see ‘Gulf of America,’ and people in Mexico will see ‘Gulf of Mexico.’ Everyone else will see both names,” the company said.
Google also said that it will change the name of Mount McKinley from Denali following Donald Trump’s order. Former US President Barack Obama renamed the Alaska landmark to Denali in 2015 but that change hasn’t been made on Google Maps till now.
The US Federal Aviation Administration also issued a notice regarding the geographical name changes. The agency said, “Please be advised that the FAA is in the process of updating our data and charts to show a name change from the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and a name change from Denali to Mount McKinley.”
Donald Trump said that the renaming will restore American pride. He said, “It is fitting and appropriate for our great Nation to come together and commemorate this momentous occasion and the renaming of the Gulf of America.”
The US President has been targeting Mexico since he took the oath of office. He imposed a 25% trade tariff on Mexican goods at the time and accused Mexico of drug smuggling and illegal immigration into the US.
