Pakistan are close to wrapping up their last preparatory assignment ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy. They are playing a tri-series featuring New Zealand and South Africa on home soil. The Mohammed Rizwan-led side, on Wednesday, defeated the Proteas in the third ODI to set up a final against New Zealand. After Pakistan won by six wickets, a hilarious moment involving Wiaan Mulder unfolded at the post-match presentation ceremony. The South African star was called up on the stage to receive the “Catch of the Match” award. He claimed the title for his exceptional efforts to dismiss Pakistan batter Saud Shakeel.
In a video making rounds on social media, Mulder was seen stepping up on the podium, with an official waiting to present him a cheque worth 1 lakh PKR (approximately Rs 31,000). After shaking hands, the duo looked at the camera to pose with the cheque.
As the official had held the cutout upside down, Mulder urged him to keep it horizontally. The delegate appeared to be a bit confused. Mulder tried to hold the cheque properly but the official once again changed its alignment. Their bizarre misunderstandings left fans in splits, with the video, posted on X (formerly Twitter), attracting many reactions.
Some viewers joked about the amount of the cheque. One of them sarcastically asked, “100,000 PKR = 358 USD. That’s how much donation he is getting?” Echoing a similar sentiment, a fan wondered, “Cheque of Rs 31000 for an international game!”
“Champions trophy 2025 is gonna be a circus to watch,” added another. An individual quipped, “Pakistan is not for beginners.” The video has already garnered thousands of views on the X platform.
Pakistan put up a dominant show in the must-win fixture against South Africa. With Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha scoring centuries, the hosts comfortably chased down 353 in 49 overs. It also made Pakistan the first team to chase a 350-plus target in ODIs in the last five years.
The final will be played at the National Stadium in Karachi on February 14. New Zealand have been unbeaten in this ODI tri-series. They beat Pakistan by 78 runs in the campaign opener before notching a six-wicket victory over South Africa.
