A woman from Michigan, US, has been charged with murder after killing her teenage son in their apartment, allegedly after he urged her to do it before he turned 18, according to a Fox17 story. The 39-year-old Katie Lee is charged with killing her son, Austin Pikaart, 17, at their residence. According to court documents, Katie Lee is charged with open murder and resisting arrest. After trying to induce her son to stop breathing for a while, Katie Lee called the police and admitted to using a knife to cut his throat, according to court filings.
On February 21, before he turned 18, Katie Lee said her son had asked her to kill him. She also stated that five hours before she killed her kid, she and the victim had attempted to overdose on medication. Lee reportedly told dispatchers that she and her son had overdosed on medication and attempted suicide together, as per WZZM.
Shockingly, the mother, still clutching a big kitchen knife smeared in blood, unlocked the door for the policemen when they arrived. The officers requested her to drop the weapon as they pointed their guns at her, expecting her to attack.
One of the police attempted to use a taser on her while she continued to hold the sharp blade, but was unsuccessful until she threw the knife and tried to retrieve it once more. She was then able to be taken into custody by the police. The police told the court that she begged them to murder her when she was caught so she could be with her son.
After she was taken into custody, police officers went into the flat and found Austin Pikaart, dead and covered in blood on his bed. According to an autopsy, the cut to his neck killed him. His mother is currently facing a murder charge and, if found guilty, could be imprisoned for the rest of her life.
Katie Lee cried during the roughly 10-minute arraignment when she appeared in court via Zoom. However, her close relatives appeared to stand by her side as they shouted, “We love you, Katie,” from the courtroom gallery, according to WZZM13.
