Vice-captain Shubman Gill showed complete commitment to grab a blinder of a running catch off Harshit Rana’s bowling in the second 2025 ODI against England at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday.
It happened in the 30th over of the first innings. On the fourth ball, Rana spotted Harry Brook advancing down the ground and smartly pushed in a slower-one. Brook tried to thump it down the ground because Gill was inside the circle at mid-off but got the timing all wrong and ended up slicing it high in the air.
Gill set off early, running back with his eyes over his shoulder and on the ball before timing a forward dive to perfection to grab it with both hands. Deep Dasgupta on air described it as an ‘unbelievable’ take.

Brook, the England middle-order basher, got out for 31 (52), just when he was looking to change the pace of the innings after a slow start. His wicket left England at 168/3 with Jos Buttler joining Joe Root.
It was Rana’s first wicket of the match and fourth of his debut ODI series.
Just like the previous game, where he took three wickets, the seamer struggled for impact with the brand new white-ball before slowly coming back into the game using his variations and natural extra bounce.
His struggles went in parallel with Mohammed Shami’s as India let England off to a flier in the powerplay. The first wicket fell only in the 11th over, courtesy of spinner Varun Chakaravarthy’s maiden ODI scalp.
Left-arm tweaker Ravindra Jadeja then dried up runs from the other end, building enough pressure on the other opener, Ben Duckett, to make him try a bad shot and get out for 65 (56).
India are leading the three-match series 1-0. England need to win this second game to have a chance of going to the 2025 Champions Trophy with some confidence in white-ball cricket, having already lost the five-match T20I series 4-1.
