Notably, on Thursday, the “Trump 2028” hat ($50) and a “Trump 2028” T-shirt ($36), along with the other merch, were available on the website.

The merchandise rollout has reignited speculation that Trump could challenge—or attempt to reinterpret—the 22nd Amendment.

Can Trump run for a third term?

The amendment, ratified in 1951, explicitly states: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” Trump, having been elected in 2016 and again in 2024, is constitutionally barred from running in 2028.

During a March interview with NBC News, Trump said, “A lot of people want me to do it. But, I mean, I basically tell them we have a long way to go, you know, it’s very early in the administration.” When pressed on whether he wanted another term, he replied, “I like working.”

“I’m not joking. But I’m not — it is far too early to think about it,” adding, “There are methods which you could do it.”

During a private Republican gathering shortly after his November victory over former Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump reportedly said, “I suspect I won’t be running again, unless you say, ‘He’s so good we’ve got to figure something else out.’”

Even at a May 2024 appearance before the National Rifle Association, Trump playfully mused, “I don’t know, are we going to be considered three-term or two-term? Are we three-term or two-term if we win?”

When asked about the merch, the White House referred questions to the Trump Organisation. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told NBC News, “But it’s a cool hat and I suspect it will be highly popular!”
