The outside of the cabin is wrapped in a reflective golden glass, giving the house a distinct look that plays and changes with the sunlight’s brightness during the day—sunrise and sunset providing the most stunning effects. But no matter the light, it’s a subtle, softer gold that seems to radiate unto itself.
“The glass is not that intense as a gold—it’s not like Mandalay Bay,” says Jaak in reference to Las Vegas’s iconic hotel. “When you do something with gold, you can easily overdo it. It can be too shiny.”
While the outside is certainly striking, the inside boasts a modern design with carefully placed gold touches that was created in partnership with British hardware and lighting design company Buster & Punch. There is gold aging on the oak wall panels; a hand-crafted golden-edged wall and ceiling design; gold Buster & Punch designed electrical sockets, light switches, and closet handles; and gold Buster & Punch hanging bedside lamps.
While most furniture is not included, a custom-made built-in king-size bed with ambient LED lighting and a leather headboard, two bedside tables, and a closet are installed, as well as a kitchenette with dark red cabinetry, Biano Imeprale granite and quartz countertops, a refrigerator, and a golden sink and cocktail mixer.
In the bathroom is a Laufen Kartell black wall-mounted toilet with a golden flushing plate; a freestanding black steel bathroom sink with a golden faucet; a Hansgrohe AXOR golden wall-mounted shower head with hand shower and gold Buster & Punch handles; and a tinted separation shower glass with golden profile. Gray ceramic floor tiles and oak parquet ceiling panels are throughout.
The ÖÖD Golden House prefabricated unit is priced at $250,000. And while it may not be real gold, it comes with a 1.5-ounce, 14-karat gold coin, each numbered from 1 to 79. “This is for people to experience something super rare,” says Jaak. “It definitely falls under the OMG category.”
