The Tesla driver who denoted a Cybertruck outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas had reportedly broke up with his wife recently. The police are investigating if his motive was personal or political.

Thirty-seven-year-old Matthew Livelsberger, who denoted a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas on New Year’s Day, broke up with his wife six days before he killed himself inside the vehicle. The two have a daughter, and Livelsberger’s wife reportedly told him that she knew he had been cheating on her, the New York Post quoted law enforcement sources as saying.
Livelsberger left his Colorado Springs home the day after Christmas following an argument with his wife over apparent infidelity, according to the report.
After leaving Colorado, Livelsberger rented a Cybertruck through the Turo app and made his way to Vegas, where he parked in front of the Trump hotel on New Year’s Day, detonated explosives stashed in the truck and shot himself in the head, the report quoted Las Vegas police as saying.
With the new revelations in the case, investigators were now probing whether Livelsberger’s motive was purely personal rather than political as previously considered given the location of the detonation and choice of vehicle.
FBI’s FINDINGS IN THE CASE
While the FBI said it was not yet clear if the blast was an act of terrorism, it said it had so far found no definitive link between the New Year’s Day New Orleans truck attack that killed 15 people and the Cybertruck explosion in Las Vegas later on the same day, which left seven people with minor injuries.
Livelsberger killed himself with a gunshot to the mouth, police said, citing a report from the Clark County Coroner/Medical Examiner, according to a post on X by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Livelsberger was inside the vehicle when gasoline canisters and large firework mortars in the truck bed exploded, police said.
Police previously had told a press conference they believed the person found in the truck was Livelsberger, but because the body was burned beyond recognition, investigators were awaiting confirmation from DNA evidence and medical records.
Livelsberger shot himself just before explosives in the vehicle were detonated, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill told reporters. A handgun was found at his feet.
It was one of two semi-automatic handguns found in the Cybertruck, both of which were lawfully purchased by Livelsberger on December 30. Law enforcement also found military identification, a passport, an iPhone and credit cards in the truck.
