Haryana YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who has been arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan, was surrounded by at least six gunmen while visiting the Anarkali Bazar in Lahore, according to a Scottish YouTuber who was also present there.
Alleged spy, Malhotra has been sent to 14-day police custody in Hisar on Monday.
The 33-year-old content creator and social media influencer was already under 4-day police custody which ended today. She was arrested on suspicion of espionage, and police suspected that she was in touch with Pakistani intelligence operatives.
Callum Mill, a Scottish YouTuber, posted a video of his Pakistan travel on his channel called Callum Abroad, in which he was seen briefly interacting with Jyoti. The video he shot in Anarkali Bazar showed Jyoti being surrounded by several armed men.
‘Look At All The Guns’
After introducing himself as Scottish, Jyoti asked him if it was first time in Pakistan, to which Callum said he had visited the country five times. She then asked if he had been to India and introduced herself as Indian.
When being asked about Pakistan’s hospitality, Jyoti said, “It’s great.” As she walked on, Callum realised that the armed men were with her. “She’s the one with all the guys, all the security. I don’t know what the need for all the guns are,” he said.
“Look at all the guns she has got surrounding her. There’s about six gunmen surrounding her,” he further said, expressing concern that such heavy security implied that the area was unsafe.
The video raised suspicion about the reception enjoyed by Jyoti Malhotra during her trips to Pakistan, where she was reportedly invited to high-profile parties involving security and intelligence officials of the country. The identity of the security personnel also raised eyebrows.
The police custody of YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra was extended by four days. Her arrest was made after the police suspected that she was in contact with a Pakistani staff member who worked at the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi.
Hisar Police Recover Mobile, Laptop Data
Meanwhile, Hisar Police had received data from the mobile phone and laptop belonging to Jyoti. Jyoti Malhotra’s custody is ending today and she will be produced before the court later in the day.
During the last hearing of the case, Hisar police had sought custody of Jyoti, citing the delay in the forensic reports. The data from Jyoti’s phone has been recovered, and a detailed report has been submitted from the forensic department to Hisar Police.
In an official statement last week, Hisar Police said it had seized three mobile phones, one laptop and some other electronic devices from the accused. Additionally, police had also called Harkirat, a resident of Kurukshetra, for questioning.
Jyoti Malhotra is accused of sharing sensitive information with Pakistan, including details about power blackouts in India during ‘Operation Sindoor’, sources told News18. Officials have also taken three of her mobile phones and her laptop for forensic testing.
