The South Korean entertainment industry is currently embroiled in a major controversy surrounding actor Kim Soo Hyun. The 37-year-old, known as one of the most popular and highest-paid celebrities, has been facing intense public scrutiny following shocking claims made by the late actress Kim Sae Ron’s aunt on a YouTube channel. She alleged that the Queen of Tears star was in a six-year relationship with Sae Ron, which reportedly began when she was just 15 and he was 27.
The controversy has now reached a point where even Kim Soo Hyun’s former co-stars are being impacted. One of them is actress Seo Ye Ji, his It’s Okay to Not Be Okay co-star. In the early hours of March 13 (KST), she took to her official fan cafe to express her frustration over being linked to Soo Hyun, his cousin Lee Sa Rang, and their company, Gold Medalist, once again. Directly addressing her fans, known as yeyes, she opened up about how the constant association with them has affected her overall well-being.
In her post, Seo Ye Ji admitted that she had briefly responded to a hateful comment on social media before deleting it. The comment appeared in reaction to a TikTok rumour once again linking her to Kim Soo Hyun. It read: “Unnie, [incoherent sentence about dating Kim Soo Hyun]. Please don’t let us down again. I just read about it on TikTok.” Though vague, the remark was enough to provoke a response from the Eve actress, who had previously chosen to stay silent despite past controversies.
After deleting her comment on social media, she took to her official fan cafe and set the record straight. Addressing the yeyes, Ye Ji, as quoted by Koreaboo, said, “I’m only human… So this has been overwhelming, stressful… and I’m so sick and tired of it all. It saddens me and suffocates me… I’ve been holding back and back… but I ended up responding to this comment. I deleted it, though.”
She continued, “I wish people would… please… stop. I am in no way affiliated with him and his cousin. I don’t even know why I have to explain myself… but I’m just extra frustrated tonight… Good night, YeaYeas.”
Despite having no ties with either Kim Soo Hyun or Gold Medalist, her name has been dragged into the controversy due to her past association with them. Over the years, Seo Ye Ji faced multiple allegations of school violence and bullying and gaslighting her ex-boyfriend Kim Jung Hyun. Many now speculate that those allegations were orchestrated by the agency to shift the focus from their internal problems.
