Sanjay Kapoor is the youngest brother of Boney Kapoor and Anil Kapoor. While the Kapoor family has made a name for itself in Bollywood and stands among the most well-to-do households in Mumbai, they had humble beginnings. Sanjay Kapoor recently recalled living with his family in a 2BHK in Chembur where he did not have a room for himself.
On the YouTube channel Timeout With Ankit, Sanjay said, “We lived in a two-bedroom-hall apartment in Chembur. After my grandmother passed away, my grandfather came to stay with us, taking over the room I shared with Reena (sister). We were already close-knit, but his arrival brought us even closer. We’d sleep on mattresses in the living room. We only had one AC in the house, which was in my mom and dad’s room, so I’d sometimes sleep on the sofa in their room at night.”
He opened up about his parents’ sacrifices and said, “My parents didn’t go abroad until they had sent the whole family overseas first. They gave us the best schooling. We were having the best food. All my friends would wait for the food made at our house.”
In an earlier interview with Galatta Plus, Boney Kapoor recalled his family’s struggle and said, “My father was brought to Bombay by Prithviraj Kapoor. My grandfather handed over my father to Prithviraj ji because my father left about 10-12 jobs. Left, in the sense, he was thrown out because he was siding with and supporting the workers, fought for their causes.”
While Boney Kapoor became a prolific film producer in the Hindi cinema industry, Anil Kapoor grew up to become one of Bollywood’s top actors. However, Sanjay Kapoor’s Bollywood career didn’t prove to be as successful. While he had a good start, his career slowed down in the 2000s.
Meanwhile, Sanjay’s wife, Maheep Kapoor has had newfound stardom after the release of Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. Three seasons into the show, Maheep has become a sensation on social media. Their daughter, Shanaya Kapoor, is also gearing up for her debut in Bollywood with Vikrant Massey for a love story.
