Rapido
The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Ahmedabad has suspended the services of Rapido, a private aggregator, for a period of 30 days citing violation of regulatory norms following multiple complaints from rickshaw associations.
The company was issued multiple notices by the RTO and sought its explanation but the company failed to reply.
As per aggregator rules 2020, two-wheelers ferrying passengers for commercial use should have a yellow number plate. It also requires compulsory insurance of the vehicles used in its operations. Both these rules were found to be violated by Rapido.
With the bike service becoming popular among people, auto unions had complained to the RTO about the rules violations.
J J Patel, an RTO official said, “The RTO had only issued an aggregator licence for three-wheeler auto rickshaws to Rapido, but they violated the rules by using non-transport two-wheeler vehicles through their online app. They continued operating these vehicles even after their documents expired, putting passenger safety at risk. So, we have decided to suspend Rapido’s services for 30 days. If they continue to violate the regulation, legal action will be taken.”
“In case, violation continues to happen, their licence would be permanently cancelled, “ Patel added.
