India celebrated its 76th Republic Day with a grand parade at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, showcasing the nation’s cultural heritage, military strength, and technological prowess. The celebrations were led by President Droupadi Murmu, with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto as the chief guest.
The day began with President Murmu unfurling the national flag, followed by the national anthem and a thunderous 21-gun salute using the indigenous 105-mm Light Field Guns. The ceremony symbolised India’s progress in self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
President Murmu and President Subianto arrived in the iconic traditional buggy, a practice revived in 2024 after 40 years. They were escorted by the President’s Bodyguard, the oldest regiment of the Indian Army, adding a regal touch to the event.
The parade featured vibrant tableaux representing India’s cultural diversity, along with marching contingents from the armed forces, paramilitary units, and police. Highlights included the all-women contingents of the Central Reserve Police Force and the Delhi Police, as well as the majestic camel-mounted troops of the Border Security Force.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) took center stage with a breathtaking air display. The flypast featured 40 aircraft and helicopters, including Rafale, Su-30, MiG-29, Apache, and C-17. These aircraft performed intricate formations such as Dhwaj, Rakshak, Satluj, and Trishul, leaving the audience in awe.
The highlight was the Vertical Charlie maneuver, performed by a Rafale fighter jet, marking the grand finale of the flypast.
The celebrations concluded with an adrenaline-pumping performance by the motorcycle display team, known as the Daredevils. The riders showcased daring stunts, formations, and precision riding.

YSRCP chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday extended his greetings on the 76th Republic Day and urged people to celebrate country’s unity in diversity.

A fire broke out in a paper warehouse in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai on Sunday.
The incident took place in the Tiruvottiyur area of Chennai.
Soon after receiving the information about the incident, the officials of the fire department immediately reached the spot with firefighters.
As many as four firefighters are present at the spot and are making efforts to douse the fire.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said the district headquarters of Dibrugarh will be developed as the second capital of the state within the next three years.
Unfurling the national flag on the occasion of Republic Day, Sarma said the government will construct a permanent building of Assam assembly in this city on the southern bank of Brahmaputra in Upper Assam.
“Today is an important day in Dibrugarh’s journey to become the second capital of Assam. For the first time, state celebrations are taking place in this historical city,” he said.
From 2027, one session of Assam assembly will take place in Dibrugarh every year, the CM announced.
“From January 25 next year, the construction work for a permanent building of the Assam assembly will begin. In the next three years, Dibrugarh will become an important city in India,” he said.
As part of the government’s urbanisation plan, Tezpur and Silchar will also be developed along with Dibrugarh in the coming period, Sarma said.
“Dibrugarh will be the second capital of Assam in the next three years. We will construct a Raj Bhavan in Tezpur and develop it as the cultural capital of Assam. Silchar will have a secretariat and chief secretary’s office, thereby bridging the gap between Barak Valley and Guwahati,” he added.

Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong congratulated President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on India’s 76th Republic Day on Sunday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Sunday that in their respective letters to the Indian leaders, Tharman and Wong hailed Singapore’s and India’s close relationship, and they both looked forward to deepening their partnership.
India marks its 76th Republic Day on January 26 in an annual display of culture and military prowess.
“On behalf of the people of Singapore, I extend my warmest congratulations to Your Excellency and the people of the Republic of India on the joyous occasion of India’s 76th Republic Day,” wrote Tharman in his letter.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to make a one-day visit to Prayagraj on Monday to take part in the Mahakumbh Mela 2025, as per a release from the Mahakumbh Media Centre.
According to the release, Shah is scheduled to arrive in Prayagraj at 11:25 AM on Monday, following which he will take a holy bath at the Triveni Sangam. He will then visit the Bade Hanuman Ji Temple and Abhayvat.
Later, the minister will proceed to Juna Akhara, where he will meet the Maharaj and other saints of the Akhara and have lunch with them.

The T-90 Bhishma tank, commanded by Captain Navjot Singh Atwal of the 74 Armoured Regiment, led the Mechanised Columns, and demonstrated India’s cutting-edge military technology.
The T-90 Bhishma is a symbol of India’s cutting-edge military prowess, designed on the Hunter-Killer concept. It boasts a powerful 125 mm smooth bore gun, a 7.62 mm co-axial machine gun, and a 12.7 mm anti-aircraft gun. Equipped to fire laser-guided missiles, this tank can engage targets at a range of up to five kilometres, even during the night.

Mounted on his charger Ranveer, a Hanoverian horse, Lt Ahaan Kumar led the iconic 61 Cavalry at the 76th Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi on Kartavya Path on Sunday.
It is a proud moment for the young officer as his father Lt Gen Bhavnish Kumar, General Officer Commanding, Delhi Area is the Parade Commander.
These soldiers on their horses have been a prominent feature of the Republic Day parades.
Raised in 1953, 61 Cavalry is the only serving active Horsed Cavalry Regiment in the world, with the amalgamation of all the ‘State Horsed Cavalry Units’.
It has the unique distinction of leading the last recorded Cavalry charge in history wherein as part of the 15th Imperial Cavalry Brigade, it defeated the Turkish Eighth Army which led to the capture of the strategic port of Haifa on Sep 23, 1918, which today is celebrated as Haifa Day in India as well Israel.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha kicked off the 76th Republic Day celebrations on Sunday in Agartala by unfurling the national flag, calling it a “matter of great pride.”
In his address, Saha highlighted the significance of the Constitution, which has guided the country’s progress.
Speaking to ANI, the Tripura Chief Minister said, “This is a very historic day. Today is the 76th Republic Day, and it is a matter of great pride for us that the Constitution was written. On its basis, the country is moving forward.”
