Parliament Monsoon Session Day 4 LIVE: Lok Sabha adjourns till 2 p.m. amid unabating Opposition protests

Congress MP Manickam Tagore has submitted an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha demanding immediate discussion on what he terms the “mass disenfranchisement” of over 52 lakh voters removed from Bihar’s electoral rolls. Tagore’s motion, filed under Rule 56, characterizes this as an “unprecedented assault on the voting rights of the poor, Dalits, Adivasis, and backward communities” and accuses the Election Commission of being misused as a political tool under the Modi government’s watch.

The Congress MP’s motion describes the voter removal as “institutional voter cleansing” driven by what he calls “dangerous Manuwadi ideology” that seeks to silence marginalized voices including laborers, the landless, slum-dwellers, minorities, and youth. Tagore argues this represents a direct attack on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s legacy of universal adult franchise and warns that similar tactics could be exported to other states ahead of upcoming elections. He has urged Parliament to accept the adjournment motion for immediate discussion, calling it a “national emergency for democracy” that threatens the constitutional rights of crores of Indians.
