US President Donald Trump shared a humorous anecdote from his recent two-hour phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a lighthearted moment at the White House Rose Garden on Monday. While the leaders were discussing peace negotiations regarding Ukraine, Putin made an unexpected comment about First Lady Melania Trump.

Speaking at a White House Rose Garden ceremony for the signing of the “Take It Down” bill, Trump recounted the exchange and told the crowd, “Putin just said, ‘they respect your wife a lot.'”

When Trump responded, “What about me?” he said that Putin had responded, “They like Melania better.”

Notably, after the two-hour call with Putin, Trump claimed in a post on social media that Russia and Ukraine are set to begin immediate negotiations for a ceasefire and potential end to the war.

Trump Signs ‘Take It Down’ Act

President Donald Trump signed the Take It Down Act into law on Monday, marking a significant step in regulating the online distribution of nonconsensual explicit imagery, including deepfakes and AI-generated content. The law aims to protect victims from the growing threat of digital sexual exploitation.

During the ceremony, Trump addressed the dangers of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and their misuse. “With the rise of AI image generation, countless women have been harassed with deepfakes and other explicit images distributed against their will,” he said. “It’s wrong, and it’s just so horribly wrong… today we’re making it totally illegal.”

First Lady Melania Trump, who championed the legislation and personally lobbied lawmakers on Capitol Hill, also spoke at the event. “This legislation is a powerful step forward in our efforts to ensure that every American, especially young people, can feel better protected,” she said. “Artificial Intelligence and social media are the digital candy for the next generation… but unlike sugar, these new technologies can be weaponised.”
