The complaint was filed by activist Nikhil Ruparel through advocate Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh.
Ruparel, president of the National Delegate NSUI Student Wing (Congress), has claimed that during the bonus episode of India’s Got Latent (aired on YouTube), Ranveer Allahbadia made an obscene comment. This comment, which was widely shared on social media, has sparked outrage for its highly offensive and vulgar nature.
He described the statement as “deeply offensive, obscene, and against public decency.”
The episode shot on November 14, 2024, at Khar Habitat but aired recently, also saw consistent use of abusive language by the show’s panel, including Allahbadia, Raina, Chanchlani, and Apoorva Makhija.
Ruparel has argued that such language, especially when used on a public platform, contributes to the normalization of disrespectful behavior, particularly impacting younger viewers.
“The repeated exposure to such language can normalize disrespectful behavior, erode mutual respect, and desensitize young individuals to the consequences of their words, fostering an environment of hostility and aggression,” the complaint states.
Such statements should not be made in public discourse as they have the potential to severely degrade societal values, undermine the ethical standards upheld by the community, and negatively influence public morality, he has alleged.
