Why Nepal Is Prone To Earthquakes | EXPLAINED

Nepal is prone to earthquakes due to its location on the boundary of two major tectonic plates: the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate. The Indian Plate is moving northward and colliding with the Eurasian Plate, causing immense pressure to build up over time. This convergence has created the Himalayan mountain range, including Mount Everest, and makes the region seismically active. The stored energy is periodically released as earthquakes, with Nepal experiencing frequent tremors and occasional devastating quakes, like the 2015 Gorkha earthquake. Its rugged terrain and dense population further amplify the impact of these events.
