The counting of votes for the Kaliganj bypoll result will take place on June 23, 2025. There are a total of 3 candidates in the fray to be elected as the next Kaliganj MLA. Byelection for this assembly constituency was necessitated because of the death of Nasiruddin Ahamed of the All India Trinamool Congress.

ABOUT
Kaliganj is an Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) constituency in West Bengal . This constituency is located in Nadia district and South East Bengal region of West Bengal . Kaliganj Assembly seat can be classified as “Rural”. The reservation status of this seat is “General”. Kaliganj is part of the 12. Krishnanagar (General) Lok Sabha constituency. There are a total of 294 seats in the West Bengal state Assembly.
CONTESTING CANDIDATES
In the June 2025 assembly bypoll, there were a total of 3 contesting candidates, while in the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections there were 8 candidates for this seat.
The candidates contesting in the 2025 by-election are Alifa Ahmed (TMC), Ashish Ghosh (BJP) and Kabil Uddin Shaikh (INC).
PAST ELECTION RESULTS
In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly election, Nasiruddin Ahamed (Lal) of TMC defeated Abhijit Ghosh of BJP by a margin of 46987 votes which was 22.66% of the total votes polled. A total of 207328 votes were polled in the election, of which TMC got 111696 votes which was 53.87% of the total votes polled.
Mahua Moitra (TMC) won the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat, of which Kaliganj is a part of.
POLL DATES
The gazette notification for the Nilambur bypoll was issued on May 26, 2025 (Monday), the last date of scrutiny of nominations was June 3, 2025 (Tuesday) and the last date of withdrawal of nominations was June 5, 2025 (Thursday). This constituency will vote on Thursday, June 19, 2025 and the counting of votes will happen on Monday, June 23, 2025.
In the 2021 Assembly elections the counting of votes was held on Sunday, May 2, 2021.
ELECTORATE
In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Kaliganj had a total electorate of 247246 voters, of which 127402 were male, 119841 female and 3 voters of the third gender.
VOTER TURNOUT
According to data released by the Election Commission of India, in the 2025 West Bengal Assembly elections, the estimated voter turnout in this Kaliganj constituency was 73.36%. In the 2021 Assembly elections, Kaliganj constituency reported a voter turnout of 83.39%. The estimated turnout in 2025 is 10.03% lower than the turnout in 2021.
LOCATION & EXTENT
Kaliganj Assembly constituency comprises the following areas of the Nadia district of West Bengal : Bara Chandghar. Debagram, Faridpur, Gobra, Hatgachha, Juranpur, Kaliganj, Matiari, Mira-I, Mira-II, Panighata, Plassey- I and Plassey-II GPs of CDB Kaliganj.
The geographic coordinates of this constituency is: 23°43’07.7″N 88°15’12.6″E.
Electoral Dynamics– Kaliganj
Kaliganj Assembly seat of West Bengal has been a stronghold for the Left alliance in the past. Congress’ candidate Kapil Uddin Shaikh has been backed by the Left Front. On the other hand, Trinamool Congress has fielded Alifa Ahmed, daughter of Kaliganj’s last MLA Nasiruddin Ahamed. BJP has never won this seat.
