The iPhone 16 series are gradually being put through the rigours of the scratch test, and this time it was the turn of the iPhone 16 Plus model. In a recent video, YouTuber Zack Nelson, better known by his channel name JerryRigEverything, tested the durability of the new iPhone 16 Plus.

The smartphone was evaluated for damage over a period of 7 years. The Plus model works better than other smartphones, according to his claims, particularly when it comes to the Mohs hardness rating. The results show that it performs better in scratch resistance compared to many other smartphones on the market.

iPhone 16 Plus Scratch Test: How Much Does It Score?

The iPhone 16 Plus has shown impressive durability in scratch tests, with only minor scratches appearing at level six and deeper grooves at level seven. This contrasts with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, which exhibited noticeable scratches at level six. The YouTuber also noted that the latest Ceramic Shield on the iPhone 16 Plus remains smooth, enhancing its resilience against scratches.

The iPhone 16 Plus gets an 85 percent recycled aluminium frame which is less scratch-resistant than its Ceramic Shield display, with noticeable damage to the side panels from blade scratches. However, the Super Retina XDR display withstood a fire test without permanent burn marks, and the device showed no cracks after the bend test.

These tests, while insightful, don’t necessarily reflect real-world durability.According to the YouTuber, the new electrically de-bonding adherent at the rear, which loses its properties when a current passes through it, may make repairs even simpler than with the Pro models. As for the iPhone 16 Pro versions, they still have the conventional glue pull tabs.

The iPhone 16 Plus has launched at the same price of Rs 89,900 as its predecessor in the Indian market. The regular and Plus models are assembled in India which is likely to have helped Apple to keep the prices same.
