Hyderabad: Google has rolled out Search Live, a new feature that enables real-time voice-based conversations in its app for Android and iOS. Currently available in the U.S. for users enrolled in the AI Mode experiment via Labs, the feature allows users to engage in back-and-forth voice chats with Google Search while exploring links from across the web.

Ideal for multitasking or when you’re on the move—like packing for a trip—Search Live lets you ask natural, spoken questions. For instance, you might ask, “What are some tips for preventing a linen dress from wrinkling in a suitcase?” You’ll receive an AI-generated audio response and can easily ask follow-up questions, such as, “What should I do if it still wrinkles?” Relevant web links are also displayed on-screen for deeper exploration.

What sets Search Live apart is that it works in the background, allowing users to continue the conversation even while using other apps. A transcript button lets you view the text version of responses and type additional questions. You can also revisit past conversations by accessing your AI Mode history.

Powered by a custom version of Google’s Gemini model, Search Live is built on top of Search’s trusted quality and information systems. The feature uses a query fan-out technique, delivering a broader and more diverse range of web content to support more meaningful discovery.

To access Search Live, users must opt in to the AI Mode experiment in Labs. Once enabled, a new “Live” icon appears under the search bar. Google encourages users to test the feature and share feedback.

In the coming months, Google plans to expand Search Live capabilities in AI Mode, including the ability to use your phone’s camera to show Search what you’re seeing—enabling even richer, real-time interactions.
