The final phase of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, a 76-kilometre stretch from Igatpuri to Amane, is likely to be inaugurated on May 1, Maharashtra Day.
This could happen alongside the launch of the south-bound carriageway of the Thane Creek Bridge, according to officials.
As per Hindustan Times, Anil Gaikwad, Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), confirmed, “Both the projects are fully ready for inauguration. Once opened, connectivity to Navi Mumbai, Pune and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport will improve greatly.”
The expressway project was first envisioned by former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to improve high-speed connectivity between Mumbai and Nagpur.
Here’s a quick look at the journey so far:
- Phase 1 (Nagpur to Shirdi): Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December 2022.
- Phase 2 (Shirdi to Bharvir, Nashik): Opened in May 2023 by then Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
- Phase 3 (Bharvir to Igatpuri): Launched in March 2024 by former MSRDC minister Dada Bhuse.
Now, the final phase from Igatpuri to Amane is ready to roll.
Sources suggest that the state government may request PM Narendra Modi to inaugurate this last phase while he’s in Mumbai on 1 May for the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).
