Reacting to an upset China, top Indian government sources said the bilateral with US is not about creating any regional imbalance

Any deal with the United States (US) is not to isolate China or create a bloc, top Indian government sources told CNN-News18 as Beijing registered its dissent with Washington and accused it of “trying to create a chess board”.
On Friday, Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Guo Jiakun, when asked about US President Donald Trump’s statement that the United States will increase military sales to India starting this year, said the deal with India “is with an idea of targeting China”.
At the regular press briefing, Jiakun said: “Relations and cooperation between countries should not be used as a pretext to target China, nor should they be leveraged to promote bloc politics or confrontational alliances.”
He added: “The Asia-Pacific region is a hub of peaceful development, not a chess board for geopolitical rivalry. Creating exclusive cliques, engaging in bloc politics and fostering confrontational alliances will not bring security and will be detrimental to peace and stability in both the Asia-Pacific region and the world.”
Reacting to an upset China, top Indian government sources said the bilateral with US is not to create tension.
“We have a bilateral with every country in the world, including China. China is also our neighbour and our deal with USA is not about creating any regional imbalance,” they said.
Earlier, India had rejected US President Donald Trump’s offer to “help” in ending India-China border tensions, just like he had previously done after the Galwan clashes in 2020.
While Prime Minister Narendra Modi didn’t react to the offer, foreign secretary Vikram Misri said in a briefing later that the issues are being handled bilaterally.
