‘As soon as humanly possible!’ Elon Musk’s old video on Tesla’s entry into India goes viral

Tech billionaire Elon Musk’s old video reaffirming Tesla’s plans to establish its presence in India went viral amid the US electric carmaker signing a lease deal to open its first showroom in Mumbai.

In a video from 2023, which has gone viral, Musk acknowledged Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s support for Tesla’s expansion into the Indian market.

Tesla will be in India as soon as humanly possible. I would like to thank the Prime Minister for the support. Hopefully, we will be able to announce something in the future. We do not want to jump the gun on the announcement, but it is quite likely that there will be a significant investment in India in the future,” said Musk.

The statement was widely circulated on X, with the account @cb_doge sharing a video clip of Musk’s remarks, reinforcing the Tesla CEO’s vision for the Indian market.

However, with India emerging as a key player in the global electric vehicle industry and the government’s push for sustainable mobility, Tesla’s expansion into the country appears imminent.

The move is expected to bring significant investments, job opportunities, and technological advancements to India’s electric vehicle sector.

Earlier this month, Tesla has signed a lease agreement for a showroom in Mumbai, as the company is in the process of selling imported vehicles in India, reported Reuters.

According to registration documents reviewed by the wire services, the American electric vehicle manufacturer has secured a five-year lease starting on 16 February 2025. The showroom will be located in the Maker Maxity building, a business and retail hub in Bandra Kurla Complex, near Mumbai’s airport.

The lease covers a 4,003-square-foot (372-square-metre) space, with an initial annual rent of approximately $446,000 (around 3.7 crore). The agreement includes a five per cent yearly rent increase, reaching about $542,000 (around 4.5 crore) in the final year.
