Two people died following a plane crash involving two aircraft in the US state of Arizona on Wednesday. The crash occurred northwest of Tucson, police officers from the city of Marana said.
The Marana Police Department said the crash happened on February 19 at the Marana Regional Airport, located near Avra Valley and Sandario Roads, according to a report by Fox10Phoenix. They also categorised the incident as “aircraft collision”.
“There has been at least 1 confirmed deceased individual. Details are limited at this time,” police wrote in a Facebook post.
Photos shared on social media showed a large plume of smoke near the airport. Marana has a regional airport and is a town located northwest of Tucson.
The FAA and NTSB will respond to the crash, the local broadcaster said.
Reports also said that both planes were occupied at the time of the crash.
This is the latest in a series of air travel accidents in the US. On Monday, a Delta Airlines flight flipped over in Toronto, leaving passengers hanging upside down as fuel leaked down the windows and smoke filled the cabin. All 80 people on board were safely evacuated. Delta Airlines said 21 passengers were taken to the hospital and 19 of them have now been discharged.
Marana witnessed a crash last October, near Avra Valley, when a crop-dusting plane crashed between two houses.
