Apple has officially launched its Apple TV Plus app for Android smartphones and tablets, expanding access to its streaming service beyond Apple devices. The application is currently available on the Google Play Store, but it’s not yet accessible to all users.

The new app allows Android users to watch Apple TV Plus content, download shows for offline viewing, and manage watchlists.

Users can also subscribe to Apple TV Plus and the MLS Season Pass using Google Play billing. But the application does not permit users to rent or purchase films and TV episodes, a feature available on Apple devices.

According to a report by The Verge, Apple has also optimised the Android app for foldable devices, making it more user-friendly for those with larger, flexible screens.

An earlier Bloomberg report stated that Apple was planning to release an application for Android.

Apple expands Apple TV Plus accessibility

Previously, android users could only access Apple TV Plus through android TV or a web browser. The extension of the app to android smartphones has significantly improved accessibility.

Apple TV Plus is also compatible with a wide range of smart TVs and streaming devices. A detailed list of supported devices can be found on Apple’s website.

A subscription to Apple TV Plus currently costs $9.99 per month, according to The Verge.

Another report stated that first-time users will be offered a seven-day free trial. The subscription can be shared with four other family members.

Apple’s growing presence on android

The release of the Apple TV Plus app marks Apple’s expanding presence on android. Other Apple apps available on the platform include Apple Music, Apple Music Classical and the Beats app, which enables users to control Beats headphones and earbuds, as reported by The Verge.

Apple is yet to comment on the rollout of the application.

Apple introduces purchase migration feature

Apple has also introduced a purchase migration feature, allowing users to transfer purchased content such as apps, music, and films from one Apple account to another. This update provides flexibility for users who maintain multiple Apple accounts for different purposes.

Previously, Apple only supported purchase sharing via Family Sharing. However, the new feature caters to users with separate accounts for iCloud services and media purchases. It does, however, come with strict conditions and regional restrictions.
