Apple’s AirPods Max are set to receive a significant upgrade in April 2025, with a software update introducing lossless audio and ultra-low latency capabilities.
The forthcoming update will enable AirPods Max to support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio, preserving the integrity of original recordings and allowing listeners to experience music as artists intended. This advancement extends to Personalised Spatial Audio, providing a more accurate and immersive soundscape. Apple Music subscribers will have access to over 100 million songs in lossless audio.
Welcome upgrade
For music creators, the integration of lossless audio and ultra-low latency into AirPods Max could enhance their entire production workflow. Utilising the USB-C cable, these headphones become the only ones that allow musicians to both create and mix in Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking. This feature ensures that artists can seamlessly record and mix without compromising audio fidelity.

Gamers and livestreamers will also benefit from the ultra-low latency audio, which significantly reduces lag time to a level comparable with the native built-in speakers on Mac, iPad and iPhone.
Free firmware update
The software update will be available as a free firmware upgrade alongside iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4. AirPods Max are currently priced ₹59,900 and come in five colours: midnight, starlight, blue, purple and orange. Additionally, a USB-C to 3.5 mm audio cable is available for ₹3,900, allowing users to connect their headphones to various audio sources, such as airplane audio-out ports or car stereo systems.
Additionally, Apple also announced yesterday that it will host its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) online from June 9 to 13, 2025. Developers and students will also have the opportunity to celebrate in person during a special event at Apple Park on June 9.
Available for free to all developers, WWDC25 will spotlight the latest advancements in Apple software. As part of Apple’s ongoing commitment to supporting developers, the conference will provide them with unique access to Apple experts, as well as insight into new tools, frameworks and features.
“We’re excited to mark another incredible year of WWDC with our global developer community,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s Vice-President of Worldwide Developer Relations. “We can’t wait to share the latest tools and technologies that will empower developers and help them continue to innovate.”
