The former Chess world champion, Magnus Carlsen, has called for the sacking of Manchester United’s Ruben Amorim from his managerial role after the club suffered a 1-3 loss to Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday.
Despite picking up points against the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal, United have been struggling with inconsistencies in form which has resulted in the club being positioned at 13th in the domestic league table.
United’s struggles on home turf have also seen the club create an unwanted record for the most home games lost in a season since 1893-94. They also lost a total of 10 games in the domestic competition, which is also the earliest in a top-flight campaign where they have hit 10 defeats or more since 1989-90.
Carlsen, who was not pleased with the result, shared a short post on his official X account (formerly known as Twitter). He said, “Amorim Out!”
In fact, the Red Devils boss has himself admitted these kinds of performances make them the worst side in the club’s history, a scathing criticism by the manager who mentioned this comment after the game.
“We are the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United,” Amorim said after his side’s wretched display at Old Trafford,” he shared.
United will be desperate to get back to winning ways and, more importantly, maintain consistency.
The eight-time World Blitz Chess Champion has been an avid follower of the sport, where he has been in attendance for numerous games across several clubs. He follows the 15-time European Champions, Real Madrid, and has also been in attendance for several games in the Premier League as well.
An interesting point to note is his interest in playing Fantasy Premier League. In fact, his bio on his X profile has ‘#1 Fantasy Premier League player,’ written as well.
Carlsen will take part in the Germany leg of the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour in February, where he will also take on the current World Champion, D Gukesh, in what would be a highly anticipated encounter between two of the best players.
