The Indian Test cricket team met Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese who hosted a reception for the visitors who are in the country for a five-match series. India, having taken a 1-0 lead over Australia, will next face a Prime Minister’s XI in a two-day pink-ball practice math from Saturday.
During the reception, Albanese met each of the Indian Test team’s squad member. While praising Virat Kohli for his marvelous century in the Perth Test, the Aussie PM lamented how the Indian batting star piled on the misery for his team.
Following the protocol, India skipper Rohit Sharma introduced his India teammates to Albanese.
“Good ton in Perth. As if we weren’t suffering enough at that point,” Albanese said to Kohli.
The former India captain gave a witty response that left everyone in splits.
“Always gotta add some spice to it,” Kohli said.
Albanese also praised Bumrah who played a starring role in handing India a 1-0 series win.
“Your style is very different from anyone. Great effort,” Albanese told Bumrah.
The practice match will take place the Manuka Oval which gives India a good opportunity for the day-night Test in Adelaide slated to get underway from December 6.
“Anthony Albanese @AlboMP Big challenge ahead for the PM’s XI at Manuka Oval this week against an amazing Indian side,” the Prime Minister posted on X after the meeting at Australian parliament.
The PM’s XI led by Jack Edwards also called on Albanese.
India recorded their biggest ever Test win on Australian soil in Perth. The Jasprit Bumrah-led side crushed the reigning world champions by 295 runs to complete a remarkable turnaround.
India opted to bat first but were bowled out for 150. Bumrah then worked his magic to give India a 46-run lead. In the second dig, centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Kohli meant Australia were left chasing a mammoth target of 534 and were bowled out for 238 on Day 4.
