PM Modi In France: Prime Minister Narendra Modi co-chaired the AI Action Summit in France with French President Emmanuel Macron, where he asserted that artificial intelligence is creating the “code for humanity” in the 21st century.
“AI is developing at an unprecedented scale and speed. It is being adapted and deployed even faster, There is also a deep interdependence on border. There is a need for collective global efforts to establish governance and standards that upload our shared efforts, address risks and fuel trust,” he said in his remarks to several world leaders including US Vice President JD Vance and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Explaining AI in a layman’s terms, the Prime Minister gave an example of the human touch by describing how if a medical report is uploaded to an AI app, it can provide a health suggestion free of jargons, but on the other hand if the app is asked to draw an image of someone writing with their left hand, it is likely to draw someone writing with their right hand.
He also expressed concerns about the many vices of AI and said the world would need to think carefully about artificial intelligence. “AI is already reshaping our quality, economy, security and even our society,” he further said.

PM Modi Pushes For Innovation, Global Good
Stressing the need for concerted global efforts to manage AI, PM Modi said, “Governance is not just about managing risks and rivalries. It is also about promoting innovation and deploying it for the global good.”
The Prime Minister said it was crucial to discuss openly about innovation and governance to enable access for all, including the Global South, where the capabilities are fewer. He said AI can transform millions of lives by promoting health, agriculture and lives.
“It can help create a world in which the journey to Sustainable Development Goals becomes easier and faster. We must pull together resources and talent. We must develop open source systems that enhance trust and transparency. We must build quality data sets freed from biases,” he said.
How To Address Disinformation, Deepfakes
Prime Minister Modi also called on to democratise technology and create people centric applications, while addressing concerns related to cybersecurity, disinformation and deepfakes.
“We must also ensure that tech is rooted in local ecosystems for it to be effective and useful,” he said. “The high energy intensity of AI needs to be looked into. This will require green power to fuel inclusion.”
Will AI Take Over Our Jobs?
The PM also touched upon AI replacing human jobs. “Jobs are AI’s most feared disruption but history has shown that work does not disappear due to technology. Its nature changes and new types of jobs are created. We need to invest in skilling and reskilling our people for an AI driven future,” he said.
He said the human brain manages to compose poetry and designs spaceships using less power than most light bulbs.
‘India Is Ready To Share Its Experience’
PM Modi also highlighted India’s accomplishments in the tech industry, saying it has successfully built a digital public infrastructure for over 1.4 billion people at a very low cost. “We have unlocked the power of data through our data empowerment and protection architecture, and we have made digital commerce democratic and accessible to all,” he added.
“Today, India leads in AI adoption and techno-legal solutions on data privacy. We are developing AI applications for public good and have one of the world’s largest AI talent pools. India is building its own large language model, considering our diversity. We also have a unique public-private partnership model for pooling resources like computing power, making it available to our startups and researchers at an affordable cost,” the PM further said.
The PM said the G20 had built a consensus on harnessing AI responsibly for all during the presidency of India. He also asserted that India is ready to share its experience and expertise to ensure that the future of AI is for good and for all.
PM Modi ended his speech by highlight that “we are at the dawn of the AI age, which will shape the course of humanity’. He said only humans hold the key to the collective future and shared destiny of the world and that sense of responsibility should guide the people.
