Ahmedabad plane crash live updates: Bodies of 6 victims handed over to families

Among the 241 people who lost their lives in the Air India plane crash in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad a day ago was a young girl, who was on her way to London for higher studies.

Suresh Khatik, a relative of the victim, said the family had taken loans to fund her education in London.

“After completing her college, she used to stay with us. Then she wanted to study in London. We took out loans to support her education there. My DNA sample has been taken,” Khatik told mediapersons.

On the possible cause of the Air India plane crash, serving commercial pilot, Arindam Dutta said, “Until the black box is recovered and investigated, I can’t give you the exact details. It came to our knowledge that after takeoff, the landing gear was still down; it should have been up after 50 to 60 feet, and then it sank within 30 to 40 seconds.”

“With a huge amount of fuel, at least 90-100 tons of fuel, that’s aviation gasoline – it’s highly inflammable in nature, and with a small spark, it will just be like a bomb. The safety audit will give us the proper reason. There may be two to three causes: mechanical, human error, or weather. During takeoff and landing, these two segments are very vital. In those 30 seconds, the captain gave a mayday call, so something was going on in the cockpit, and during that period, he had the guts to give a call,” he told ANI.

Bodies of six victims, who lost their lives in the deadly Air India plane crash on Thursday, were handed over to relatives, police said today.

Former Gujarat CM and BJP leader Vijay Rupani’s neighbour and family doctor, Dr Nayan Shah, says, “We have been neighbours for 35 years. His memories will always stay with us. Be it good or bad times, we stayed together. We used to celebrate all the festivals together.”

PM Modi on Friday met Vishwaskumar Ramesh, the lone survivor who was onboard the ill-fated Air India flight AI-171, at the Civil Hospital.

Vishwaskumar Ramesh was in the ’11A’ seat of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which was carrying 242 passengers and crew. He was travelling to London with his brother.

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has written a letter Prime Minister Narendra Modi to extend condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims of the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad.

“I was deeply saddened to learn of the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 on June 12, 2025. On behalf of the Government of Singapore, I extend my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims of the crash,” Wong wrote in the letter.

Among those killed in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad was former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani. The victims also included a couple from Agra heading for a UK holiday, two siblings on a summer trip, and a family of five who were taking selfies moments before disaster struck. Two young British nationals, who had just wrapped up a “magical” India tour, also perished in the crash.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday visited the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital to meet those injured in the AI-171 plane crash. The lone survivor of the fatal crash was also being treated there.

Air India has set up Friends & Relatives Assistance Centres at Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi, and Gatwick airports to provide support and care for the needs of the families and loved ones of passengers on flight AI171 that crashed on Thursday, ANI reported.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed condolences following the tragic crash of an Air India flight near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

Speaking to the reporters, he said, “I express my condolences to those who lost their lives and wish a speedy recovery to those injured. May God give strength to the families of those who lost their lives in this incident.”

Mukesh Ambani, chairman & managing director of Reliance Industries, expressed sorrow over the deadly Air India plane crash that occurred in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik arrived at the Civil Hospital on Friday, where the medical treatment of the lone survivor, Ramesh Vishwaskumar and the injured MBBS students was underway. 

The collection of DNA samples for the identification of deceased passengers was also being done.
