FC Barcelona and Hansi Flick have reached an agreement for the renewal of his contract which will tie him to the Club until 30 June 2027.
The German coach has signed a new contract on Wednesday at the Club offices in the presence of FC Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, first vice president Rafa Yuste and the Club’s sporting director, Anderson Luis de Souza “Deco”, amongst others.
A memorable first season
Hansi Flick has made Barça fans happy in his first season for many reasons: for the belief he has given to the team, for the epic comebacks and for the trophies. The excitement that the German has brought to the club in his first year in charge has made FC Barcelona a feared rival once again in Europe.
Everything started back on 18 August in Mestalla against Valencia. A first comeback, the first of many in a season in which the team has come from behind to win on no less than nine occasions.
Flick has won 43 of the 54 games he has been in charge, a win rate of 73%, the best in a first season since Luis Enrique recorded 83%. Statistics that have led a young squad to a domestic treble of La Liga, Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.
Two finals wins out of two
Hansi Flick in his opening campaign has extended his legend as a man for finals. With victories in the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey against Real Madrid, the team against which the German’s side have scored most goals this season. Flick has never lost of a final and his record now stands at seven from seven, five with Bayern Munich and two with Barça.
The cherry on the cake this season would have been the Champions League but Flick has had to satisfy himself with being dominant on the domestic scene, winning the Spanish Super Cup, Copa del Rey and La Liga. The cup and league double has only been achieved by four other coaches in their first season; Van Gaal, Ernesto Valverde, Guardiola and Luis Enrique.
Hansi Flick is creating history at FC Barcelona and that, we are sure, will continue in the coming seasons.
