Bayern Munich exorcised some demons on Wednesday in a rollicking 3-0 win over domestic rivals Bayer Leverkusen. It had to feel good for head coach Vincent Kompany — and even better that the result came in the Champions League knockouts.
But Kompany knows the job is far from done. For starters, there is a second leg of this Round of 16 tie to go.
“We did a lot of things right, otherwise you can’t beat such a team. We have to repeat what we did well today next week. It’s not the time for praise. Of course the guys can be happy, but we’ll switch our focus to Bochum and then to Tuesday,” Kompany said after the match (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Managing motivation is not easy over the course of the season but Kompany seemed to have his men dialed in for this one. The challenge now? To keep that going.

“It’s only the first half, we remain totally focused on the second leg,” Kompany stressed. “It was the most important game of the season so far, but hopefully we’ll get more important games. We’re staying calm as we always did, and we’ve shown that we’re always ready.”
