Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar on Tuesday took a swipe at Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann after his meeting with party chief Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi, saying he seemed “so distraught”. However, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) hit back at Jakhar, telling him to focus on his problems rather than worrying about Mann.

Many newly-elected Delhi BJP MLAs met party’s national president J P Nadda on Tuesday in what was described as a courtesy meeting amid continuing suspense over who will be the next chief minister.

Several MLAs said after the meeting that no discussion over the legislature party meeting or likely chief ministerial choices occurred in the meeting.

As they had been wanting to meet Nadda following the party’s big win over the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Delhi Assembly polls, they were asked to see him at his office in the Parliament building, the MLAs said.

Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Tuesday said that defeat in the Delhi Assembly election was a huge shock to the Aam Aadmi Party, adding that Punjab will slip away from the AAP’s hands.

“The defeat of Delhi is a huge shock for Arvind Kejriwal. The condition of Punjab is also not well,” Athawale told ANI.

Bhagwant Mann dismissed rumours that he is being replaced as Punjab CM amid Delhi poll loss.

“Let them say what they want to,” he said after meeting AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal at Delhi’s Kapurthala House.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann asked Congress to count their Delhi MLAs amid Punjab legislators meeting in the national capital.

“I would ask Pratap Singh Bajwa to count how many MLAs they have in Delhi,” he said to the media after meeting AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal along with party’s Punjab MLAs.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann clarified that the meeting called by AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal was to thank Punjab MLAs for their hardwork in Delhi election despite defeat.

“Arvind Kejriwal thanked the MLAs for their work in the Delhi elections… Punjab government is working for the welfare of the people… Even today, the people of Delhi say that they have not seen such View ~ work in the last 75 years as the AAP has done in the last 10 years… We will use Delhi’s experience in Punjab… We will work together. Our party is known for its work… In today’s meeting, it was decided that in the coming two years, we will make Punjab a model that the whole nation will look up to… Punjab has always been forefront in all the fights,” he said after the meeting.

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari claimed that AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal wants to become Punjab CM after his party lost the Delhi assembly polls.

“Now Arvind Kejriwal wants to become the chief minister of Punjab. He is holding meetings. Till now he was not concerned about Punjab, he did not even fulfil the promises made to the people,” Tiwari said.

He did not say anything about BJP’s CM face for Delhi.

Kapil Sibbal said that Congress always tries to bring consensus among allies and question must be asked to AAP and Arvind Kejriwal after the Delhi poll debacle.

“It is an important question, they should have asked Arvind Kejriwal when they fielded their candidates in Haryana, Goa, Gujarat, and other places. It should have been asked. Congress always tries to get everyone on board with a consensus. Sometimes problem happens. You can see how many seats were given to Congress. RJD said that because of Congress, they could not come to power. Everyone will have to decide how they will approach the elections. BJP’s advantage is that they have a single command, they get benefit. In UP, Congress fought the election with Samajwadi Party, it helped, the same happened in Tamil Nadu. It needs to be talked among themselves. Sharad Pawar said that it is a national alliance. So there is a confusion, which needs to be sorted out,” Sibbal said.

BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal has predicted the downfall of AAP in Punjab after the Delhi assembly election loss.

“Arvind Kejriwal and AAP did fraud, and deceit against people of Delhi for 10 years. As a result, people punished them. The same situation is there in Punjab. Now that AAP has finished in Delhi, the same will happen in Punjab,” he told PTI.

BJP leader Prakash Reddy said on Tuesday that after the Delhi elections, the political circles are analysing that ‘there won’t be any INDI alliance’ for any other elections in Indian politics.

“After the Parliament elections, INDI bloc could not contest together in J&K, Haryana, Maharashtra, and now in Delhi… The existence of INDI bloc is in a dark phase. Even Mamata Banerjee announced that she would contest West Bengal elections without any alliance. This indicated that the INDI bloc has broken… Because of Congress, all parties are deciding to contest alone, especially regional parties,” he said.

BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj said on Tuesday that PM Narendra Modi gave the mantra of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas to the workers of BJP inspired by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay’s ideology.

“This double-engine government that has come to Delhi will ensure that PM Modi’s public welfare schemes get saturation and their last-mile delivery happens,” she told ANI.

BJP leaders including party MP Bansuri Swaraj paid their tributes to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay on his death anniversary at the BJP Headquarters.

Suspense over who the BJP will pick as the next chief minister of Delhi continues as several names find themselves on the list of probables. Caste and gender equations may play an important role in deciding who gets the top job.

While outgoing CM Atishi has resigned from the post, LG VK Saxena has asked her to continue till the new government is formed. So she is running the state government till the BJP takes over.

There have been three BJP CMs in Delhi till date, Sahib Singh Verma, Madan Lal Khurana, and Sushma Swaraj. The kids of all three, Parvesh Verma, Harish Khurana, and Bansuri Swaraj, are on the probable list for the next Delhi CM.

After facing defeat in Delhi polls, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal will meet Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and party MLAs on Tuesday amid reports of dissent.

AAP MP Malvinder Kang said it was an ‘organisational meeting’ to device the next strategy.

BJP’s Vijender Gupta has said that the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) report on expenses for the renovation of the chief minister’s residence will be tabled in the first session of the Delhi Assembly.

“In the first session of the Delhi Assembly, we will table the CAG report,” Gupta told ANI.

Top contenders include Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, who won from New Delhi, defeating Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal; Vijender Gupta, Pawan Sharma, Arvinder Singh Lovely, Raj Kumar Chauhan, Rekha Gupta Shikha Roy), who pulled off an upset win in Greater Kailash against Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Harish Khurana.

Other names doing rounds are Ajay Mahawar, Jitender Mahajan, Bansuri Swaraj, former Union minister Smriti Irani, and Satish Upadhya; another giant killer who defeated Somnath Bharti.

According to an Indian Express report, BJP’s national leadership was likely to appoint two observers following a meeting of its 11-member Parliamentary Board led by Nadda this week, to take the process forward.

“The observers will interact with the incoming MLAs, then a meeting of the BJP Legislature Party will be called, where the CM pick will be revealed. This may take around a week since the Budget Session of Parliament is on till the 14th,” a source quoted in the report said.
