BMW is said to have secretly built a fully-electric M2 prototype, based on the previous-generation model.
Reports state that the BMW M2 EV prototype development started in 2018 by a small team within the brand’s M division, internally called “The Beast”. The electric M2 prototype is said to be a “super raw vehicle” built solely for development and testing purposes without any plans for a production version. Michael Sailer, part of the functional development BMW M driving dynamics team even called it a “super powerful” prototype which was hard to control.
The M2 EV came with carbon ceramic brakes and a charging port in place of the fuel filler cap. It also had a dual-vented hood and a different front bumper, with all the auxiliary hardware positioned under the bonnet. The M2 EV has reportedly been touted as the first-generation electric M prototype.
BMW’s first all-electric production model will come in the form of the next-generation M3. The carmaker has already teased the first set of images of the upcoming electric M3 which will sold alongside its ICE-powered counterpart. The upcoming electric M3 will be based on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform and will feature a quad-motor setup, producing over 1000 BHP.
