V.S. body shifted from AKG centre to son’s private residence

Hundreds of Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] workers vociferously hailed Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan as his mortal remains were transferred late at night from the AKG Centre for Research and Studies to his son, V.S. Arun Kumar’s residence near Barton Hill in Thiruvananthapuram city.

Achuthanandan’s family will keep an overnight vigil until Tuesday morning, when party workers will shift his body to lie at the Durbar Hall at 8.30 a.m.

CPI(M) general secretary M.A. Baby and CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan, flanked by other senior party leaders, stood beside Achuthanandan’s bier as hundreds filed past his body, offering their final tributes to the working class leader, the last of the founding members of the party.

Meanwhile, former CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat arrived at Mr. Arun Kumar’s house ahead of the arrival of the late leader’s mortal remains.

Achuthandan’s funeral cortege will depart from the Durbar Hall on Tuesday afternoon. En route to his residence at Velikkuakathu House in Alappuzha, the cavalcade will have several stops for the public to pay their respects.

Meanwhile, scores of party leaders thronged Mr. Arun Kumar’s house in anticipation of the arrival of the mortal remains of the departed leader. Achuthanandan had led an assisted life at the residence since 2019. He left active politics after he suffered a minor stroke.
