How can we age better? What exercises should we do? And how can we increase our mobility as we get older?
Producer, JJ Clarke, joins me on this week’s episode of The Real Health podcast to discuss the five ways to age healthier.
The first question producer JJ asked was how should people exercise when they hit middle age. I explained, “Move more, not less. As you get older people think they should move less and reduce their exercise. Professor Rose Anne Kenny uses this advice and it’s excellent. People need to exercise more as they age.”
One topic I wanted to focus on during the conversation was balance tests. I told producer JJ, “ The first one is: How long can you stand on one leg with your eyes open and if you can do that for 30 seconds, close your eyes and see how long you can do it for which increases the difficulty. The longer you can do it, the healthier you are. Why? Because if your balance is poor, you will fall and you will accelerate the aging process.”
