Harry Potter TV show finally reveals the Malfoys in big cast update

HBO’s Harry Potter TV show has added nine more stars to its growing cast – and we finally know who’s playing Draco and Lucius Malfoy.

When it rains, it pours. Over the past two months, Warner Bros has been steadily unveiling the stars of the once-secretive Harry Potter TV project, with the likes of Jon Lithgow (Dumbledore), Nick Frost (Hagrid), and Paapa Essiedu (Snape) joining the cast.

Notably, the new lead trio has been confirmed: Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.

There are plenty more characters still to be cast, but after weeks of speculation and rumors, two major roles have been filled.

Harry Potter TV show has found its Draco Malfoy

Lox Pratt has been cast as Draco Malfoy. He only has one other credit on his IMDb page: BBC’s upcoming adaptation of Lord of the Flies.

Over 30,000 kids auditioned for the series in an open casting call, and just like McLaughlin, Stanton, and Stout, Pratt is a relative newcomer. Eight other stars have also joined the show:

  • Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy
  • Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley
  • Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan
  • Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil
  • Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown
  • Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley
  • Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley
  • Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge

Ever since the project was announced, fans had predicted that Tom Felton would return to the world of witchcraft and wizardry to play Lucius (especially with him reprising his role as Draco in the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child stage show on Broadway).

The new Harry Potter show isn’t expected to be released until late 2026, if not early 2027, so keep tabs on what else is coming out this year with our 2025 TV calendar and check out our list of the best TV shows of all time.
