China Chemical Plant Explosion: A powerful explosion rocked a chemical plant in eastern China’s Shandong province on Tuesday, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

The blast occurred at Gaomi Youdao Chemical Co., located in an industrial park in Weifang city. There were no immediate reports of casualties, and rescue operations are ongoing.

The plant produces pesticides and chemicals used in medicine and employs over 500 people, according to company registration records. The cause of the explosion has not yet been confirmed.

The explosion was so strong that it shattered windows at a warehouse more than three kilometres from the factory. A local resident, who spoke anonymously, said his home shook from the blast and he saw a large column of black smoke rising from the site, even though he lived more than seven kilometres away.

Footage showing thick black smoke rising from the area was widely shared on social media platform X.

In response to the incident, China’s Ministry of Emergency Management quickly sent a work team along with specialists — including firefighters, medical experts, and safety officials — to assist in the rescue efforts.

More than 230 firefighters have been deployed to the scene, according to CCTV. Authorities have not yet confirmed if there were any injuries or fatalities.
