Red and Yellow Alerts Across Karnataka
The IMD has placed several districts under alert due to anticipated heavy downpours:
- Red Alert: Uttara Kannada, Shimoga, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu
- Yellow Alert: Mysuru, Hassan, Haveri, Gadag, Dharwad
These areas are likely to face intense rainfall, with the red alert zones being most at risk for flash floods, landslides and waterlogging. Residents in these districts are urged to follow official advisories and avoid unnecessary travel.
Two lives were lost in Bengaluru due to electrocution during flooding. A 63-year-old man, Manmohan Kamath, and a 12-year-old child were killed while attempting to drain rainwater from their apartment using a motorised pump. “When he connected the pump to a socket, there was a short circuit, leading to his electrocution,” said a Mico Layout police officer.
As monsoon-like conditions continue to grip the city and state, authorities and residents alike are being urged to stay alert, follow safety guidelines, and prioritise wellbeing in the face of unpredictable weather.
