At 6:30 pm on Monday, PM Modi will welcome Vance and his family at his 7 Lok Kalyan Marg residence that will be followed by official talks.

The focus of the meeting is likely to be on early finalisation of the proposed bilateral trade pact as well as ways to boost overall trajectory of ties between the two countries, the people cited above said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host a dinner for US Vice President J D Vance and Indian-origin Second Lady Usha on Monday evening after holding talks with the American leader on a range of key issues, including trade, tariffs, regional security and ways to expand the overall bilateral engagement.

On their visit, showroom Manager Meetu Wazirani said, “This is a handloom handicraft emporium. They liked everything. They were short of time, but they spent almost 40-45 minutes. They bought tea, honey, papier-mâché items, wooden items and pottery. And they appreciated the goods. They were very humble and soft-spoken. She bought whatever the kids said.”

“The whole family was here for around 55 minutes. Their experience of one hour inside was unforgettable. After the welcome, they started with the Charanarvind of Lord Swaminarayan. Moving ahead, they visited Bharat Upvan. They liked the garden very much. Going further, they visited Gajendra Peeth. They were very overwhelmed by the carvings. India and the US expect to ink a framework for defence partnership this year, while India also plans to procure and co-produce arms including Javelin anti-tank guided missiles and Stryker infantry combat vehicles, according to a joint statement issued after the February meeting between PM Modi and US President Donald Trump, reported Reuters.

Discussions on such procurements would be taken forward during US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s expected visit to India in the next couple of months, people familiar with the matter said.

Tightened security and traffic regulations put in place for US Vice President JD Vance’s India visit caused traffic congestion for commuters in Delhi and Noida and a heavy traffic jam at the National Highway 24 on Monday morning, reported PTI. On Monday night, the Vance family is expected to visit Jaipur where they will be staying at the Rambagh Palace.

Built in 1835, Rambagh Palace, which is operated by Taj Hotels, is the former residence of Maharaja of Jaipur and once served as a royal guesthouse and hunting lodge. While the purpose of US Vice President JD Vance’s official visit is to negotiate a bilateral trade deal with India, social media users were more delighted with his three children, who landed in Delhi wearing traditional Indian attire.

The brothers, Vivek and Ewan, were seen dressed in summery kurta pyjamas, and their three-year-old sister wore a long blue dress with an embroidered jacket. Usha Vance opted for a red dress with a white blazer for her Delhi landing. “Forget Mr and Mrs Vance. Their kids have stolen the show with their attire,” read one comment on X.

The United States and India share a significant trade partnership as the US is India’s largest trading partner. Amid the ongoing trade war across the globe triggered by US’ punishing reciprocal tariffs, India and the US are aiming to strike a bilateral trade agreement this year. JD Vance’s visit to India could be a crucial step in that direction.

India and the US have set an ambitious target of more than doubling their bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030, reported AP. If achieved, the trade deal could significantly enhance economic ties between the two countries and potentially strengthen diplomatic ties as well.

On Tuesday, JD Vance, his wife Usha Vance will leave for Jaipur where they will visit a number of historical sites, including the Amer Fort, also known as Amber Fort, reported PTI. The fort is a UNESCO world heritage site.

As United States Vice President JD Vance arrived in Delhi to began his first official visit to India on Monday morning along with his Usha Vance, their children sported traditional Indian clothes to mark their entrance.
