Chinese diplomat Zhang Zhisheng slammed Karoline Leavitt for wearing a dress made in China.

As the trade war between the US and China deepens, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt’s red dress became a topic of discussion on social media. The controversy started after Chinese diplomat Zhang Zhisheng slammed Karoline Leavitt for wearing a dress made in China as he said that there is a difference between the Donald Trump administration’s rhetoric and everyday realities of trade in the world.
On X (formerly Twitter), Zhang Zhisheng shared a picture of the dress and also included screenshots from Weibo users in which one claimed that the lace on Karoline Leavitt’s dress came from a factory in Mabu, China.
“Accusing China is business. Buying in China is life. The beautiful lace on the dress was recognized by an employee of a Chinese company as its product,” the diplomat wrote.

Social media users were divided into two groups: one which believed that the dress available on the Chinese website was a copy and the other which criticised Karoline Leavitt for slamming China while wearing their products.
“Chinese people are notorious for bootleg clothes. It’s more likely that they copied a luxury brand’s jacket,” one user said, while another commented, “Fake news. She’s wearing the French original whereas the advert shows a Chinese copy. It’s funny indeed, but the spin of the tweet is dishonest.”
A third commented, “Leavitt slams Made in China while rocking a Chinese-made dress, hypocrisy much? Tariffs hit hard, but her wardrobe says she’s all for it. Classic politician move: blame China, but keep the cheap goods.”
Another wrote, “How does Karoline Leavitt manage the crushing irony of slamming ‘Made in China’ while strutting in a gorgeous Chinese-made lace dress at the White House podium?”
