Tuk Tuk is the latest romantic horror drama that hit theaters today. Starring young actors Nihal Kodhaty, Harsh Roshan, and Saanvee Megghana in lead roles, the film is directed by debutant Supreeth Krishna. Check out our review to see how well the film has connected with the audience.
Story:
Set in Rayalaseema village, Tuk Tuk’s story follows three happy-go-lucky mischievous teenage boys (Harsh Roshan, Karthikeyaa Dev, and Steven Madhu). During Ganesh Chaturthi, they collect donations and set up Ganpati idols. After some dramatic events, the three boys get an old scooter repaired, name it Tuk Tuk, and carry out a Ganesh procession on it.
Interestingly, Tuk Tuk responds to their questions by nodding its handle, leading them to believe that God resides inside the scooter. However, they eventually discover that the scooter is possessed by a spirit. Who is the spirit? Why is it in the scooter? How is Shilpa and Naveen’s love story connected to the story? What do the boys do for Shilpa? Watch Tuk Tuk on the big screen to know the rest of the story.
Plus Points:
Tuk Tuk’s story is blended with romance and emotional drama. The director executed the emotional love drama and family sentiment well. The interval sequence is quite decent. The main highlight is the “Tuk Tuk” scooter track, the backstory of the spirit, and the comedy involving the characters around it. The love track involving Shilpa and Naveen adds depth to the narrative.
Nihal Kodhaty suits his character well and stands out with his impressive physique and realistic performance. Talented young actress Saanvee Megghana delivers a commendable performance and gorgeous looks. Harsh Roshan, Karthikeyaa Dev, and Steven Madhu impressed with their acting skills. The rest of the actors did justice to their roles.
Minus Points:
Tuk Tuk’s screenplay proceeds at a snail’s pace and tests the audience’s patience. The conflict in the story isn’t quite engaging, and the main characters fail to connect well. The drama surrounding Tuk Tuk and the love story are not developed well, and they become the major drawback. One wondered if today’s generation would be interested in melodramatic love stories like this.
Despite director Supreeth Krishna’s efforts and the impressive performances of the lead actors, the lack of fresh elements in the story, unnecessary scenes, and the slow pacing hurt the film. Certain scenes in the second half drag on too slowly and end up being quite tiresome. Overall, while a few romantic scenes and comedy elements are decent, the rest of the film is boring and follows a routine format.
Technical Aspects:
The emotional quotient of the film is good, but the narrative doesn’t flow interestingly. Santhu Onkar’s music is pleasant, while Karthik Sai Kumar’s cinematography is impressive. Editing is handled quite well. The production values by producers Rahul Reddy D, Lokku Sri Varun, C. Sree Ramulu Reddy, and Supreeth C. Krishna are good.
Verdict:
Tuk Tuk is a horror drama with a few emotional moments and love scenes. However, the slow pacing of the plot, lack of interesting elements in the second half, and the missing of an engaging conflict make it an underwhelming film on the whole. Barring a few romantic scenes, the film does not have anything that holds the audience’s attention.
