Wojciech Szczęsny says Barcelona showed off their ruthless side against Atletico

Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny felt his team showed off their ruthless side on Sunday by beating Atletico 4-2.

The Polish stopper spoke afterwards and admitted he felt sorry for Atletico as he thought they had been the better team for most of the match.

“We were happy because it’s a massive result, as human beings we also have to feel a little bit sorry for the opposition. As long as they had the energy I though they were better than us. They took their chances very well,” he told the media.

“In the end we showed our ruthless side. When we had a bit more space, we had chances, we are very happy.

“What made the difference was the energy level. They didn’t have the energy to make the extra yard and the extra tackle, it’s natural after such a tough week but you have to take those chances when they come.”

Atletico played extra-time in midweek and ultimately went out on penalties to Real Madrid in a heart-breaking Champions League defeat. Sunday’s loss has also hurt their titles hopes, with Atletico now four points behind Barca who also have a game in hand.
