Shubman Gill led the Indian men’s cricket team in the five-match Test series against the English team. The 25-year-old right-handed batter from Punjab, with the help of four centuries, scored a total of 754 runs for the Indian team in 10 innings. He finished as the leading run getter in the series and also broke multiple batting and captaincy records. Here’s a look.

Shubman Gill became the second captain in the world after Kohli to score three centuries in the first two Tests. Gill scored 147 in the 1st Test played at Headingley and 269 and 161 in two innings of the second Test at Edgbaston. He also became only the second captain after Gavaskar to score a century in the first Test and a double century in the second. On his Test captaincy debut against New Zealand in 1976, Gavaskar scored 116 in Auckland, and in the first innings of his second Test as captain, he scored 205 against the West Indies in Mumbai in 1978. Gill also became only the second player after Allan Border to score 150+ runs in both innings of a Test match. In the 1980 Pakistan-Australia Test played in Lahore, Border scored 150 not out in the first innings and 153 in the second, whereas Gill scored 269 and 161 in two innings of the Birmingham Test.
