BHUBANESWAR: At least one person died and 25 others were injured after 11 coaches of the Bengaluru-Kamakhya AC Superfast Express derailed near Nergundi station in Cuttack district on Sunday.
The incident occurred at around 11.54am in the Cuttack-Nergundi railway section of the Khurda Road division under ECoR. Senior railway officials, including the ECoR General Manager and Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Khurda Road, reached the site. Accident relief and medical relief trains were also dispatched, according to an official statement from ECoR.

“A special train is being arranged to transport stranded passengers to their destination. We have issued helpline numbers for train passengers and their families. Help desks have also been set up at Bhubaneswar, Bhadrak, and Cuttack railway stations,” said an ECoR spokesperson.
“The cause of the derailment is yet to be determined. Right now, our focus is on diverting stranded trains on this route and providing necessary facilities to affected passengers at the derailment site. A special train will be arranged for their evacuation,” said Ashok Kumar Mishra, chief public relations officer of ECoR.

Due to the derailment, three trains have been diverted.
